From Hobby to Hustle: The Artisan of the Day Is Ryan Bilesky.

From tinkering with HTML as a pre-teen to founding a one-person Laravel agency, Ryan Bilesky has channeled curiosity into craftsmanship.

Ryan’s journey started early. At around 11 or 12, he searched the internet for how to build a website and never looked back. He taught himself HTML, then added CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. Though he earned a two-year degree in Information Systems, specializing in Forensics and Network Security, he skipped a traditional four-year path and took on IT roles like help desk and network operations center technician. He returned to Spokane, Washington, in 2018, working at his father’s cleaning business before COVID shifted his path.

Building a SaaS Solution with Laravel

With time on his hands, Ryan explored domain flipping and realized managing domains was a pain. He decided to solve it with tech: “I discovered Laravel. So I built this app that would track all my domains. After getting feedback from other domain flippers they would find it useful, I scrapped everything and built a full new Laravel app, this time as a multi-tenant SaaS app.”

This switch turned his side project into something real. While onboarding and sales were tricky, Ryan’s app generated interest. A fellow developer even bought it for a modest sum and then hired Ryan to help build out the platform.

Launching X7 Media: A Solo Agency Built on Laravel

That first Laravel-powered sale turned into full-time freelance work under the name X7 Media, now a solo Laravel development agency based in Spokane. Ryan lists himself as the owner and developer, working across Tailwind, Alpine, Livewire, and Laravel, and offering services like Laravel development, strategic consulting, and DevOps engineering.

“I’m my own boss and that’s the best job I’ve ever had. And it’s all thanks to the Laravel framework, and most importantly, the Laravel Community that has helped me along the way.”
